I’m amazed that in the 6 years I’ve been at Chicago Executive Airport, Air Traffic Control Tower, there have only seen a handfull of tower visitors each year. I’m not sure if people think the tower is not accessible, or maybe that we just do not want them there. We actually feel the opposite. I think an essential part of being in the aviation industry is to see, learn, and experience all you can. If you are truly passionate about aviation, seeking a career in air traffic control, or just have nothing to do during the week, come check us out.
To visit, all you need to do is call the administrative office at the tower during weekday business hours. Ask for the manager or supervisor and make an appointment. We would be glad to have you! For new student pilots, it is a time they can see that air traffic controllers are actual human beings and not evil-frequency-monsters. Visitors will need a valid I.D. and plan not to bring any kind of baggage or packages. This is a federal facility, so visitation isn’t always guaranteed due to security levels being increased or low staffing levels. If you want to schedule a visit you can call 847-229-6000, if no one answers, feel free to leave a message. We look forward to seeing you.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackway cool idea. Most land travelers have no clue what it’s like up there in the tower. I’m impressed. Stay warm and hopefully you won’t have too many scenes like the audio provided. All the technology in the world cannot cancel out the human factor when dealing with certain situations…Keep up the good work, Mr. Soupervisor.
